Advocacy Priorities

These are some initial priorities that we are currently advocating for with all relevant levels of government:

  1. That the City of Vancouver has a Small Business Office open for in-person support to help small businesses expedite various issues, such as licensing and permitting.
  2. That the City of Vancouver expands the Downtown Eastside Temporary Occupancy Permit Pilot to apply city-wide across Vancouver.
  3. That the BC Government create a Commercial Tenancy Office, and have that office work with SBV and other stakeholders to create basic lease requirements for landlords in BC.
  4. That the BC Government create split class taxation to remove the unrealized tax burden from small businesses in underdeveloped properties.
  5. That the Government of Canada increase its Small Business property purchase loan amount to make it a feasible program for small businesses in Vancouver.

There will be more to come soon. Let us know what policies you would like to see SBV champion for you and your community. Please complete the survey here to share your ideas by April 28, 2026.
